Yes, your logic is right except that ...

When the yen goes down, being overseas with yen is more expensive and travelling (airline tickets) should also be more expensive except that the travel industry is hurting so bad (this is the gravy, first to be cut back when recession hits) they are willing to heavily discount the price of flights out of Japan. With more airlines vying for a smaller pie (re : new bilateral agreement with the USA) and Air Canada having entered the market for North America, the prices in yen or in dollars have never been so cheap, even in peak season. Once you land, your purchasing power is severely reduced though...
