TEchie and all,
I am a former McDonnell Douglas employee.
From my tenure at MDC 5 years ago, McDonnell divested its support contract and computer equipment to IBM (some subsidiary of IBM like EDS) as a cost savings. I don't know the terms of the contract, except that much of the computer equipment that was owned by MDC became property of IBM at that point and IBM was supposed to service and replace units as things needed updates/leases. All of our "mainframe and super-mini" computer operations staff also went with the bargain. So MDC shed a good bit of direct overhead expense makeing their hourly charges to govt contracts look more competitive.
Thats all I know about the subject and it is a few years out of date.
hope it helps.
Craig
