NEC in Japan Recommends American Power Conversion's Desktop Power Protection Solution for NEC's High-End PC Workstations

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- American Power Conversion (APC) today announced that NEC Corporation is recommending and reselling APC's BK Pro desktop power protection solution for NEC's high-end PC workstations in Japan. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), Japan is the world's second largest desktop PC market with approximately 4.5 million units shipped in 1997.(A)

This is the second time in two months that NEC and APC have joined forces to increase systems reliability in Japan. In April, APC was named NEC's worldwide power protection vendor of choice for the NEC Express server line. In addition, NEC and APC co-designed a custom uninterruptible power supply (UPS), the NEC I-UPS Pro, which is being sold with select NEC Express servers purchased in Japan. NEC is the leader is desktop PC shipments in Japan.

"NEC selected APC's BK Pro as the recommended UPS for advanced PC workstations given APC's well-known reliability, in addition to APC's relationships with information technology leaders," said Masakazu Mise, assistant general manager, First Personal Computer Department, First Personal C&C Operations Unit, NEC Corporation. "Through extensive joint evaluation and marketing, NEC and APC are offering the Japanese market a high-quality power protection solution for the desktop."

BK Pro provides power protection for advanced PCs and workstations by protecting sensitive electronics from power anomalies such as surges, overvoltages, brownouts and blackouts in addition to controlling automatic voltage regulations. The BK Pro, which is available in 300VA and 500VA models, also provides modem/10Base-T Surge protection. Power management capabilities, such as safe automatic shutdown and schedule system shutdown, are also included.
