Dog,

DELL has clearly made a priority of the laptop market. I purchased a loaded Inspiron 3000 some months ago for my stock management and am very pleased with it. It is actually more powerful than my desktop.

DELL does not report until August, while the other companies will be reporting within a month. The main action will probably center on the companies that are reporting. If CPQ can report EPS within the estimates, it should be able to hold its own in this market environment.

My guess is that CPQ will not run up big time until it demonstrates it can return to solid profit/revenue growth. This has to be after the merger.

Say hello to Eddie for me on the CPQ thread.

Dog,

Re; Channel stuffing/unstuffing

In the past, the IDC numbers for CPQ have been for sales to the channel. So how is IDC getting sales through the channel? I am still skeptical about this report.

The Mercury News expects CPQ to disclose a 1 billion dollar write down for its own inventory sitting in its warehouse on Thursday. Could it be that CPQ agreed to take back the obsolete desktop inventory from the channel if the channel agreed to take a lot of laptops?

You mentioned that DELL is number 1 in the corporate laptop market this leaves the retail market to CPQ. It suggests that CPQ may in fact have stuffed the retail channels while it was unstuffing the desktops from the channel.

In any event , the write down should wipe out all prospect for a CPQ profit this year.
