Rob,
I think I disagree that the new chip designs will eliminate the current
glut of chips/cpu's/sram/asics, et al,. There are still "older generation
fabs producing as much as they can just to meet expenses to stay
afloat. Also, if you consider that the newer generation of fully
integrated "system on a chip" designs will virtually kill the older
technology support chips from many fabs without the resources to
compete at the highest levels. If these chips aren't required these
older fabs are in a real dillema, minimal income, tough competition,
over supply, decreasing margins, and no capital to expand or show
profitability to investors or financiers. IMO, it doesn't bode well for
the industry or the equip mfg's until a significant shake out/consolidation occurs in the chip manufacturing sector.
