You are exactly right. CPU's with an onboard L2 make the principle advantage of slot 1 disappear. Intel demonstrated this with the Celeron debacle. Slot 1 adds nothing but additional expense to a single processor system.

Will Cyrix and Intel figure this out, or will they allow AMD and IDT to take control of the mid-high end desktop CPU business?
