Re -- Its not an issue of Intel enforcing its own patents and protecting its intellectual property from Compaq but the reverse.

Since Intel owned the patents which pack-bell was using (BTW Intel supplied the boxes to Pac-bell) Compaq was not suing Pac-Bell, but Intel.

Furthermore, Intel has the right to its technical information to use as it pleases.

IBM(which is a monopoly on mainframe chips) selectively licences out its patents. Intel selectively licences out its technical information. The issue is if Intel loses this case, IBM will be made to licence its patents to anyone who claims to be a customer of IBM.
