I would think that it was not index funds buying today, but other investors buying in anticipation of the index funds buying. Any index fund buying today would be buying a non-index stock. Likewise, the index funds would likely sell DEC at the market on close price on the day, or day before, DEC ceases to exist. I could be wrong, but it seems like a logical theory.
