To all:
Well the conversation here seems to be getting very heated just as is did in the Motorola forum and look were there at. I hope the negativism here does not bear fruit. As Gregg said Glaciers move but they move very slow. I must make one mention as to Gregg Powers presence in this forum. I as a share holder have wondered , and it has been asked how can he afford the time that he does to keep us abreast of things ? The answer is caring , providing legitimate information and to dispel falsehoods which he has done in the Frezza Forum. Just imagine the courage it takes to invest others moneys that count on you with their life savings. I for one would be gutless in that arena because if I won a pumpkin farm they would cancel Halloween . With the position his company has not counting his own and his family ( which I'm sure are included ) feel assured he represents all of us. His honesty and integrity should be valued by all.

With regards to IPR lately it seems like if you have it you should give it away. I would say go for it QCOM . Has CDMA been around for a long time ? You bet but what did anyone do with it?
The best one I heard was in the Mot Vs IDC trial. The trial leaned on prior art and the person on the witness stand who was questioned was the person who issued the patent. He likened what IDC did was comparable to what the Wright brothers did. He said yes they took a wheel, an engine and various other prior art and made something that flew , so didn't they in fact invent the airplane ? The recent win in the German courts by IDC against Siemens, Alcatel and Philips should make everyone feel that if IDC can do it so can QCOM. To add a final comment since that win they have brought in 58 million in licensing revenues plus Alcatel has joined the B-CDMA consortium. IDC has been labeled vaporware but it's currently priced as a lifetime option that won't expire.

Jim

Mikey:

I think that LMDS means Local Multipoint Distribution Service. It is a technology that in no real way threatens the Q. At the frequency that they operate at the have some pretty bad interference from rain. Thus it makes their signal none too good for cell phones. The major use for this technology as I remember it (correct me someone) is for the wireless distribution of cable in new developments. Somewhere on the east coast (of the US) they set up a new development that had a big antenna in the middle and everyone had a dish on their house. They thought it would be cheaper to distribute cable. I have no idea of the results.

Mike: Thought of you yesterday when reading a short Wired summary of LMDS. Bottom line was they weren't too impressed with it due to line of sight requirements and failure to function adequately in rain and fog. FWIW. ...Tim
