Tom: You should start seeing Bell type companies sometime next year incorporate networks to compete with LD's. Franklin knows they have a real niche with small to mid size corporations, ISP's and local JMBest type operations. That has been brought out by a few here in past notes and will be very profitable.

This is a very large segment, but all need to understand what will take place in the coming years. You can do a little WebFerret research on key words in next paragraph. When you hear of IP-switches, gateways on the backplane, think of the largest Telco's that shouldn't affect Franklin type companies.

""In 1999 looking at traditional Telecom operators they will start using IP-telephony in their switches (not with stand-alone gateways
but with built in PSTN/H.323 gateways on the backplane). Companies like Nortel (Meridian 1 PBX) and Ericsson (MD110 Consono) will provide IP-telephony on the backplane mid 1999 in
their PBX:s.""

But also understand that companies like DeltaThree have quite a considerable lead on the " Large Telco's " and is trying to compete along the same lines. It will be interesting to see if Franklin at some point starts to play a role similiar to DThree. You can bet there aware of this news with LU / CSCO type products.

""Big NextGen telcos will turn to traditional telecom/datacom suppliers for large scale platforms with management systems that will works for thousands of ports and hundreds of locations. Look what DeltaThree did, they will use the Ericsson platform:""

Now if Franklin does a similar senerio with ? for large scale platforms, then watchout, but of course, that's another league all together.

Thats why news items like yours is so important to stay on top of, giving us understanding as to "how" the industry is changing by the day.
