L3 - I wasn't trying to make a case for or against TA , only stating what the author's strategy is.
Personally , I think that the best way to trade is to base it on fundamentals , as to the "why" of going long or short (stock or commodity) , and then employ TA for the "when" part of the trade , which is equally important.
If both the fundamental outlook and the technical picture line up to point you in the same direction , then you are making a trade with less risk and a higher probability of a good payoff , and therefore you can bet more per situation than you would otherwise feel comfortable with. And , it's much less nerve-wracking to have a winning , profitable trade or two , than to have numerous situations to monitor and manage.
In short , make fewer trades , wait for the best situations , and get the big payoffs when they are there , and you will live well.
