Looks to me like a logarithmic scale on the vertical axis. I may be wrong, its a little hard to be sure. That would be the correct scale to use. That way, equal percentage changes in the price of the stock, regardless of the price (the base), will show up as equal movements in the graph. A linear scale on the vertical axis would give unduly large weight to movements in the stock when the price is high rather than low.
