TO ALL, MUST READ: Government report on Y2K

White house OMB reports that:

40% of all vital or mission critical systems are ready
9 agencies have completed 71% of mission critical system fixes
9 HAVE COMPLETED ONLY 45%
6 HAVE COMPLETED ONLY 31%

HOUSE COMMITTEE GAVE AGENCIES A GRADE OF "F" LAST WEEK.

from today's USA today .... also

"Many of the largest 250 companies have stonewalled by either failing to discuss the Year 2000 problem or making disclosures so vague as to be meaningless".

"... the top 250 corporations alone will spend at least $37 billion ..."

And according to SEC filings of the top 250 corporations ...

1/3 only began Y2K projects in 1997 (widely regarded as too late) ..
less than 50% have completed assessing the problem ..
An average Fortune 250 company will spend $148 million before its all over
Only 45 have begun testing systems for compliancy.
