Jerome,

Thanks, I'll look into that. However, the technology is not holograms. As far as software is concerned it involves a polymer which, when exposed to the laser upon loading, causes a certain region to darken and cause defects. These defects then become the key to either reload or run the software on that computer. The defects prevent the disk from being used on any other computer. They also prevent that disk from being copied, even on really expensive equipment. In essense, the disk becomes married to the computer on which it is loaded, preventing piracy. It is not an invasive hardware solution, like dongles, and it is not encryption or a software solution that can be hacked. It is physical. That is why many trade groups in the industry are excited about it.

The same polymers can be put on movie DVDs such that the disk darkens after use and can't be viewed again. This seems a lot better option than this Divx fiasco that requires you to buy an expensive player, attach it to a phone jack, and have "big brother" logging your viewing habits.
