Hey I2, good to see ya here in the TA dungeon!

Watch out for the whips and chains, nothing to be scared of there.

Good books? For the beginning enthusiast, I always rec the bible of modern TA, "Technical analysis of Stock Trends" by Edwards and McGee.

In it's 7th or 8th edition by now, I believe. Cannot go wrong.

I also recommend a good study guide on Japanese Candles. I personally like "Candlestick Charting Explained" by Morris. Candles are great for identifying trend reversals.

I have grave doubts regarding E-wave. I do think it's based on some excellent thinking, theoretically. But the method produces far too many of it's share of false readings and alarms. The E-wavers have been calling a major market top since 1992 -- oops! Missed an entire bull market covering 5 years! Oh well.

Trader,

I've been struggling to learn TA and can not help but thank you and some others input on this thread of late. Good God, the crap I was reading before that just added to the questions that I had. It is good to see someone willing to talk about an actual stock that all can pull up the chart and discuss what we are seeing. Thanks.

read technical analysis explained by martin j. pring. or another one already mentioned by magee. or even better read profiting in bull and bear markets by stan weinstein. all good books.
i am somewhat new to ta (about a year now), but can't help but notice how effective it really is. the more i see and think about iot all, the more of a believer i become. and judging by some of the technicals recently, i am very bearish both short and long term.
pring notes in his book that drug companies and machinery and retail are "hot" in the final stage of the bull market. just a note and time will tell.
just my contribution. hope it helps.

I agree with the FIRST book for T/A is Technical Analysis of Stock Trends Mcgee/Edwards I have the Sixth edition. This book states in its preface "This book is for the layman/layperson not the experienced trader." or something like that.
