Preannouncements are meant to guide investors to something they are not expecting. The way I see it I am very sure WS is well aware that CPQ might miss its number by a little but that is the bitter pill they are swallowing to flush the channel. After this quarter things will be on track as EP has said.
This quarter whether it meets the expectation of 1 cent or misses by a few is immaterial and is priced into CPQ right now. Investors really want to see the new estimate Compaq guides us to with the DEC combination. If its around $2 as suspected then this puppy will fly as it would atleast try to approach a PE of 20 (very conservative) giving a share price close to $40.
CPQ is a blue chip tech company and will be a part of most funds holdings once things get settled. It will make up for lost time.
