Atacama Minerals Corp - Pre-construction projects at Aguas Blancas site started Atacama Minerals Corp AAMShares issued 399250011998-06-12 close $0.7Monday Jun 15 1998Mr. Robert Cogliandro reports The company has started several major pre-construction projects at its Aguas Blancas industrial products site in northern Chile. This accelerated activity is necessary prior to the initiation of pond and civil works construction expected to commence later this summer in conjunction with the closing of the project debt finance package. Several roads have been cut through the project site. A building on site which will serve as the construction headquarters for company engineers has been erected. Eleven water wells have been drilled through the latest phase of the water development program and will supply water both during the construction and operations phases of the project. A water pipeline from the company's northern wells to the plant site has just been completed to supply water during the construction phase. Finally, continuous mining equipment has been brought to the site for testing. This operating test began June 1 and is scheduled to run through the end of the month. The miner is scheduled to supply approximately 50,000 tonnes of caliche ore which will be stockpiled for plant operation in 1999. Early results appear encouraging. At the same time, the project development team in both Santiago and Antofagasta has been expanded to support the developing construction activity. This commitment to high quality employees by the company is important to Atacama's long-term business plan and reflects its belief in building the strongest management team possible for this and future projects. Nice move past couple days on Atacama.Up again today closed at .90cents up from .70cents.Are we close to an announcement on financing? Perhaps some investors would be interested in knowing that a strong U.S dollar and a weak peso is positive for Atacama as many of the capital costs will be peso dominated while financing will be raised in U.S dollars.Also the caliche ore deposit is not similar to what Kap resources is mining.The Kap deposit is in nodules which they must locate and mine.The Atacama deposit,although variable in grade,is a continuous shallow evaporite deposit containing the minerals which Atacama desires to produce throughout. Lets hope for better days soon Richard A recent investment report a few days ago painted a very rosy picture for investment in Chile despite the Asian Crisis.If I can find it I will post it.
