* ADTRAN INC's CFO denied market rumors of merger talks with telecommunications giants NORTHERN TELECOM LIMITED and ERICSSON LM. "I categorically deny those rumors," CFO John Cooper said in a telephone interview. "We have had no such discussions with either of those companies. We have had no discussions at all about selling the company." Nortel spokesman Peter Janecek declined to comment when asked if Nortel had held talks to acquire Adtran.
