There's also the fact that when a company knows it's going to miss their numbers in a big way, they tend to "take a bath" and write off all the bad stuff they can think of (and then some) to spruce up future earnings. I expect the whole sector will do "the Western Digital Thing" of announcing huge one-time writedowns/losses since these companies recognize there's no way they're going to salvage the next few quarters given the substantial drop-off in (Asian) demand and the growing competitive pricing pressures.
