Note: 1.15 REAL= aprox. 1 U$S Minimum Telebras Bids Released; Price Tags Leave Analysts Mixed June 10, 1998 NEW YORK -- The long-delayed privatization of Brazilian telecommunications holding company Telecomunicacoes Brasileiras SA, also known as Telebras, moved closer to reality Wednesday after the Brazilian government announced minimum bids for parts of the company. The government is selling its 19.3% stake in Telebras. The company will be split into 12 units -- eight cellular-phone companies, three fixed-line operators and one long-distance carrier called Embratel SA. The units are scheduled to go on the auction block July 29.
