At last someone who sees no sense in Nortel buying ASND, Far too much product overlap Magellan Versus CBX/GX/BSTDX, the 200 million aquisition of Aptis the TNT pretender, Micom Packet Voice v. Ascends voice platform. Nortel and Ascend does not make any sense at all. There's less overlap with LU but it's still there with Livingston & Yurie but whats 1.7 billion of cash between friends?

bucky89 Thanks for your really great posts. My gut here is that ASND is getting too big to swallow comfortably. What in your opinion
does ASND need to acquire to give it the critical mass needed to survive as a stand alone company?

bucky89,

Cisco hasn't dropped out yet. Remember the recent win of Sprint 's contract by Cisco.

Regards,

All:
I haven't read all the posts, so I don't know if it was mentioned:
In Monday's IBD there is a piece on Telco mergers. Lucent's data networking group president is quoted as saying "Ascend would be a very positive addition to our portfolio." LU is barred from using pooling of interest until after Sept. 30. That would delay a Lucent deal until October. This is in writing in Investor's Business Daily.
