Re: Asia Warnings

Here we go again. The third one, PGTZ is probably due to Asian weakness, but they didn't directly say it. It's my guess because of the industry they are in. They are a printed circuit board manufacturer. Got to be problems related to Asia.

Glad my posts are helping others. It's pretty easy for me to do this with a cable modem, 21" monitor, and 80 megs of ram. Makes finding, cutting, editing, and pasting a breeze.

ADFlex Comments on Second-Quarter Results
CHANDLER, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1998--ADFlex Solutions Inc. AFLX Wednesday announced that, based on preliminary results, the company expects to report an operating loss for its second quarter which ends June 30, 1998, primarily due to weak demand for hard disk drive (HDD) products and increased price competition. Commenting on the preliminary results, ADFlex Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rolando C. Esteverena stated: "We expect that revenues for the 1998 second quarter will be approximately 12 percent less than the first quarter as a result of significant weakness being experienced by some of our customers supplying the personal computer markets -- in particular, the HDD segment. "In addition, intense price competition has continued from Asian suppliers as they try to mitigate the demand void that was created by the Asian financial crisis. . These measures will include the consolidation of administrative functions, a 10 percent reduction in staffing, and the transfer of selected programs from plants in Mexico to Thailand. "We expect to transfer programs of customers located in Southeast Asia who will obtain additional benefits from the unique, integrated single-source supplier capabilities that we offer.

Creative Announces That Fourth Quarter Results Will Come In Below Expectations
SINGAPORE, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Creative Technology Ltd. CREAF , today announced that its revenues and gross margins for its fourth quarter ending June 30, 1998, will fall short of analyst expectations. Revenues for the current quarter are now anticipated to be about 10% lower than revenues for the same quarter last year, down from expectations that revenues would be flat year to year. Gross margins for the current quarter are now expected to be in the mid 20s, down from expectations that gross margins would be about 30%.

The primary factor underlying these changes is the recent collapse of prices in the low-end and mid-range 2D/3D graphics market. .... Other factors affecting fourth quarter results were a decision not to ship any of Creative's soon-to-be-introduced Sound Blaster Live! product in the quarter, price reductions for older audio products, and further downturns in Asian markets. "The low-end and mid-range of the PC graphics industry has seen significant oversupply and tremendous price pressure in recent weeks, and Creative has not been immune from these conditions," said Sim Wong Hoo, chairman and chief executive officer of Creative Technology.
