Ravi, good morning! There are a few things that I "don't like" of the Brazilian privat., at least from a consumers point of view. From a supliers point of view it is great.
1.- according to the press article I posted, there will be only 1 co. for foreign communications/long distance (Embratel). We have that in our country, stinks.
2.-The basic telephony co's are regional monopolies.

My impression is that this is similar to that what happened in my country 9 years ago. We now have a private duopoly (north/south split). We have many more telephone lines, most are digital but we pay A LOT more than in the US. But as to develop the brazilian infrastructure and better its quality it will work and be most profitable for the players involved. Hope DGIV manages to get involved.

Ravi: one thing that I forgot to mention. Yesterday's release puts "Argentina and Brazil" together. This is good. For example, most of the call-back business from Argentina directs its calls to Brazil and the US. Covering Argentina and Brazil you cover, I guess, more than 60%-70% of the telco business in S.America.

On a lighter note, Argentina will do better than Brazil in the World Cup.
