B.O.S. Better On-line Solutions Releases Jadvantage; Java-based TN5250 display emulation and printing using a Web browser
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- B.O.S. Better On-line Solutions, (Nasdaq: BOSCF - news) today released Jadvantage (version 1.1), a unique, Java-based application that provides AS/400 users with TN5250 emulation and printing on PCs or Network Computers (NCs) via an Internet browser (such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer).

Jadvantage takes advantage of the growing use of the Internet/intranet as the communication medium of choice in many corporate environments by enabling any user equipped with a Java-enabled Web browser to access AS/400 host applications securely and effortlessly.

Jadvantage eliminates the need to install and upgrade emulation software on each of the attached clients, reducing the maintenance and overhead usually associated with installation and updating of client applications; the client software is deployed transparently by the browser. In addition, there is no need to install a dedicated Web server or application server. Jadvantage can be installed directly on the AS/400 (or Windows 95/NT machine), and includes a ''thin'' Web server that runs wherever the Jadvantage server runs.

Jadvantage provides a cross-platform 5250 emulation solution. It can be installed on any Java-capable platform such as AS/400, PC, UNIX, and Macintosh, and is accessed from any computer with a Java-capable browser, including NC.

For a secure means of communication over traditionally non-secure TCP/IP networks, BOS has included a powerful, three-layer security approach that includes data encryption, IP address restriction, and Jadvantage server log-in.

Israel (Izzy) Gal, BOS CEO stated, ''This Jadvantage release makes us the first choice for communications in support of IBM's acclaimed e-commerce strategy and the new IBM AS/400e.''

BOS develops, produces, and markets solutions for IBM midrange-to-PC and LAN connectivity, including Internet/intranet, emulation, gateways, and GUI. Innovative technologies have positioned BOS as an important player in the IBM midrange connectivity field. The company's Lynk subsidiary specializes in remote LAN and telephony access solutions, and its Surf Communication Solutions affiliate develops software implementations of modem protocols for the telephone network. The company's stock is traded on Nasdaq under the symbol BOSCF.
