Tony, OTOTOT Re. Department store sales

My answer to this is a bit more than simplistic. Back in January, when the SEA crisis loomed large on the horizon, I bought (relatively heavily) stocks of WMT and DH (Dayton Hudson), in anticipation of currency weakness of Southeast Asian countries and thus reduced labor costs for low-cost imports sold at these stores. And time has proven that these stocks are excellent hedges against the current crisis.

In contrast, I think stores such as Norstrom and the likes might suffer. In general the good numbers from retail sales are due to good weather across the States (except CA where El Nino visited perhaps).

Regards,
Ibexx
