I think that you are side-stepping the question that what does your scenario of no upturn till late in 1999 mean for AMD.

It will be bad for AMD too - fortunately for AMD, they continue
to be supply, not demand constrained (ie. their manufacturing is
still so far behind Intel's that they are still able to sell all
the chips they can make).
