Crystallex International Corporation -

Bishop worries about bribery

Crystallex International Corporation KRYShares issued 340000001998-06-10 close $5.35Thursday Jun 11 1998Robert Bishop, writing in his Fax Alert No. 117 dated June 10, says rumours that the Supreme Court of Venezuela was bribed can be blamed for the heavy selling that hit Crystallex International shares that day. KRY closed down 65 cents to $5.35; news services Bloomberg and Reuters reported a decision would come on June 11, but did not indicate whether it would favour Crystallex or Placer Dome. The dispute involves title-related issues concerning the gold-rich Las Cristinas 4 & 6 properties. Mr. Bishop, a strong believer and supporter of Crystallex, suggests the court may have been bought off, although he does not say by whom. "A suitcase full of money can solve a lot of problems in a lot of countries around the world, and Venezuela certainly used to be, and in many respects, may still be on the list," he writes. "Still, I have always operated on the assumption that the current court could not be bought." Mr. Bishop has been a Crystallex booster since August last year. In October, he reported the admissions court was deciding ownership. Since July 1997, the court has been mulling appeals on whether or not to accept Crystallex's challenges over how the government handed out the mining rights to Placer Dome.
