Herb, Re: "Tony, FIW Intel's pre announcements from 1/1/96 to date are as follows:"

Sounds good, Herb. Intel has gotten those pre-warn messages out there early. The only date we haven't "passed", on a relative, within a quarter basis re end of quarter is the September 16 date. (Boy, that was clear as mud).

Still, 2Q looks like almost a throwaway quarter compared with what's coming. Of course, a throwaway quarter for Intel would still be Nirvana for the vast majority of companies.

herb,

<March 4, 1998 - Weaker than anticipated demand, particularly in OEM turns (orders from PC manufacturers to be shipped within the quarter), is expected to cause revenue and net income levels to fall below Intel's expectations for the first quarter of 1998, the company said today.>

The key words are below Intel's expectations. Flat to slightly down from a .81 first quarter gives a different result than what some analysts are expecting, I think.
