Hi Judy, i make my trading decision based on the charts (Metastock). But i buy only "strong" stocks (i.e. reliable earnings history and price strength), most of the symbols in my database are from the IBD "weekend review".
PIER 1 used to be on that list for month, and i traded it several times successfully. And it's my wife's favorite - she's not interested in stocks but she read the PIR annual report. So i know a little bit about their business.
Most of the times i don't care for the funnymentals - IMO everything the market knows about the company is reflected in the stock price. My time frame is short, a couple of days or so. I use a 5% initial stop loss and move the stop up if the trade goes in my direction.
The 200 MA seems to be used by a lot of investors - kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.
I've been shorting a lot of tecs recently - MOT, HWP, MU, APM, AMAT etc. Same trading style, just take weak stocks and wait for the downtrend.
The weak dogs are having a hard time to recover - the market is not as crazy as it was a couple of weeks ago. Now earnings disappointment means sell-off.

good luck

Jurgen
