FYI, from the "media" clipping:

.....
These acquisition charges will include the write-off for purchased in-process technology, Compaq restructuring charges for elimination of duplicate facilities and employee separations, and other related operating adjustments.

"Excluding these charges, we believe the combined company will achieve approximately break-even results for the second quarter," said Mason.

How vague is that????

per CNBC, CPQ said that they wouldn't comment on the prospects for the Q3 until Q2 had ended. Seems to be some stone-walling going on here.

I think you are right. I think Compaq is using its acquisition of Digital to muddy the earnings picture. I don't believe they have the end game for the combined company. I think Compaq is trying to get out of the PC box by way of a takeover. They probably think they have acquired a ticket to the Internet, Windows NT and other high-margin goodies. What that they really got is a huge mess on their hands, a kitchen sink of businesses past their prime.

Have your feelings about CPQ changed at all, (with further press releases) since this post, Elwood?
Yours and Harvey's are valued opinions for me.
