Don't underestimate the effort needed to build a 300GB or 1TB TPC-D setup -- and I'm not talking about the server only: that's pretty trivial compared to the rest, but all the clients that are tickling it during a TPC-D run as well -- , so I guess it may take some time. I would also expect the system config to be chosen to maximize absolute TPC-D performance and throughput numbers, rather than a system for which marketroids have scratched their heads for long to minimize the /$ figures -- our marketroids aren't typically used to the sort of creative accounting needed for that either.
