James,

<Cramer has a good track record. INTC was once one of his favorite picks.>

I think Cramer is trying to show people that you should not fall in love with your stocks, and he is using Intel as an example. Good advice - bad example, IMHO.

<He mentioned that without more difficult and complex software INTC cannot grow.>

Like server based Office 9.x, Sequel Server 7 and the new version of Back Office. Add to those releases speech recognitition, and full motion 30 fps video, adn the "Chrome" 3d renereing that exsposes HTML/XML to Direct X on Win 32 OSs. Sequel 7 is available in pre-release (beat 3) stages right now, along with its own OLAP support (Plato). Chrome is in the 2nd stages of beta.

RE: <<James Cramer of The Street.Com bashed INTC today on AOL chat. He mentioned that without more difficult and complex software INTC cannot grow. He stated that INTC cannot compete on the low end where all the momentum is today>>

Did Cramer explain why Intel cannot compete at the low end? I know their current low-end effort, Celeron, is a weak attempt, but several people have already showed that Intel can produce and sell chips at least as cheaply as AMD and NSM, but that they choose to have profits instead of bleed red ink like their competitors (I can't find the relevant posts, can someone please find them). I think it is more appropriate to say that Intel CHOOSES not to seriously compete for the low-end. Other than that, I think Cramer is basically correct, the demand at the high end seems soft, and I would think long and hard before getting back into Intel, even at these low prices.

Jim, Re: "Cramer has a good track record. INTC was once
one of his favorite picks. I am very long
INTC and am looking for some insights. Any thoughts?"

Looks like it's official Intel bashing season. Kurlak, Jubak, Cramer, who's next? My opinion, until I hear otherwise from Intel (something coming after today's close, based on price activity today?), is I believe in Barrett's prediction that 2H98 would see an upturn. Xeon and Mendocino should lead the way. Also, long term, I've seen nothing but positive views on Intel from the analysts. I hope to think I will see that long term, so I 'm holding.

Re: "By the way Garn, I really appreciate your informative posts."

Thanks. What's a Garn?
