Gene .. re:biz was good

It was at first, then margins kept getting tighter and tighter.

So I did the brightest thing in the world .. imploded into being a RAM specialist .. that was summer of '95. RAM was going up and up .. win 95 was going to drive demand .. could only go up from there.

Then strange things started to happen. More production was brought on line just as win 95 was released and RAM started dropping .. each time it dropped I would think that it couldn't go any lower and stock up on more .. after a while someone would call up and say that they had a very special deal if I was willing to purchase 1000 or more and I'd tell them to find another sucker.

Gene .. one thing I learned about the semi customer .. if you drop the prices fast enough for a long enough period of time, they learn.

What do they learn?
That if you wait, it'll be cheaper real soon.

When that works for them what do they do next?
They wait even longer.

oops .. I forgot .. this is Intel, they are exempt from market psychology.

In the computer area, with overproduction and price wars everyone gets hurt.
