When the MMs short a stock does it show up as short interest?? I have personally heard the CEO of a company ask shareholders to take shares in certificate form due to shorting. I looked at the record of short interest and it showed some but not excessive amounts about the time the stock was tanking... Even after the change to 3-day settlements can you sell shares that arent actually in your account? I know you no longer can buy unless the margin or cash is there beforehand.
