just thought of another fly in ointment..if social security uses
treasuries to increase its holdings for all the coming baby boomers,
if the yield keeps on going lower,wow..what does that say for the
fund(looks as if with these low interest rates, the push towards putting some of the ss funds might get passed)
also strange question,if Japanese government knows the yen might
hit 160,if you were the Japanese government what would you do?
Encourage people to buy gold with yen or sell dollars to buy gold,
or just buy US bonds with yen..It would be interesting if they did
start buying gold with yen at first, then dollars for gold and leave
our markets as a retaliation to Rubin's firm stance..and then push
for a united Asian currency based on gold after controlling most of
the supply?(my logic may be incredibly off)..
maybe those are stupid thoughts..
(ps assuming that the European markets after this correction will
continue while US market will see money flow out)
ppss..I don't think Rubin had a choice but to stonewall and possibly
part of his strong stance was his sense that the US economy had enough
momentum to sustain itself for a while with European economy helping to carry the ball giving time for Japan to cleanup its banking system)
