(IBM)

Sid:

That was an excellent point about the 70%! I had the same feeling about it - like I said earlier I think the IBM thing is more PR than anything else.

LSI could say 120% if they look at their high density designs or some segment or whatever.

IBM did indicate a couple of years ago that they were going to make a big-time push for external work for their foundries. They always had a big captive operation but there was a decision to go after the foundry business and ASIC/SOC business with a vengeance. And I think they are doing well.

The main thing to me is that IBM is good but so is LSI - for proof people should look at the overall Std cell growth rate for LSI (42%) vs. IBM (35%) last year.

IBM went to #2 because LSI said ASIC - no mas - STD. CELL - yes mas!

Std. cells and ASSPs are the way things will go in the future (I guess the ASICs are important in networking and LSI is strong , no very strong here - funny how the Red Herring article in their networking article a few months ago gave only passing mention to LSI and highlighted AMD and NSM... funny world...) and so I am pleased.

BTW you say you see a lot of LSI - any examples?

Shane.
