rudedog, The AS400 is, in one of its simpler configurations, a host-centric computing platform accessed via dumb terminals. This is the basic computing architecture of the mainframe in contrast with client-server. The AS400 can also act as the server in various client-server configurations. Call it what you will. The point is, a 100% pure Java Virtual Machine is available for software development on this heavily installed, mission-critical, "mainframe-ish" platform.
