Yes you are missing somthing.. There have been shares around to short, just not in any huge quantity.. The online brokerages typically didn't have any, but plenty out there if you look for them.. I happen to have everal account online and off, the offline full service firms could typically caugh up a few hundred here and there. Only two days one firm offered me up to 3100 to short...
