This would crush innovation and new companies even worse than MS supposedly does. A small company (I'll use Spacetec as an example) does not have the staff to write drivers for every OS and hardware platform. I think if they were forced to do so they would have to decrease the number of devices they offer.

Yea, they would probably be exempt or something. I am not saying that regulation is the answer (I hate regulation), just that it would take something like that, or a revolt or something to make the alt os's be attractive choices.

This is why Windows succeeded in the first place. MS put a lot of effort and money into making sure developers had tools and device manufacturures made drivers to support Windows.

I will give MS that. They did a great job of this. Now companies don't want to spend the money to develop on more than one platform, mine included.
