My own take is that there are problems running this at higher speeds. I checked the ALA documentation that came with my unit and nothing was mentioned inasfar as specs is concerned. The stickers on my unit mentioned mfg date of Oct '97. Oct 97??? Then this is the exact same modem I saw demo-ed. It cannot be an 8 Mb modem. It is either a 4 or 6. Since this time they have gone off and reworked the chip. I think the rework is done and that was the announcement we saw the other day. I bet Alcatel has their 8MB solution now and is getting ready to start mass producing their chips. >>The situation reminds me back to the older IBM days. They don't have the best or latest technology products but they do get what they have then into the doors of customers first, then upgrades later. I think ALA executes this much better than WSTL. Yes, makes sense doesn't it? Multibillion dollar companies usually have more experience at this than the little pip-squeeks. >>I sure wish WSTL would show actual deployments...... I am thinking either Westell is caught up in a political cauldron with mucho $$$ attached OR they have absolutely NOTHING. This is the gamble. Like I said before, I don't think deployments will do it. Only the balance sheet will do it for us. >>A patient WSTL holder hoping for the best. The patient part will eventually make you some money.
