Bulgaria - Paraguay: 0 - 0

It is unfortunate but we finally had our first scoreless game. Paraguay in the first half was ..........still in Paraguay because it sure seemed like it that they did not exist. They were very lucky not to go down by a goal or two. Bulgaria seemed hungrier for the win but at the end it was clearly running out of gas. Stoichkov, Balacov, and Ivanov (is this guy doing heroine or what?) are still the heart and soul of the team. The only guy from Paraguay who impressed me was I think No. 4 who did not back down from the intimidating tactics of Stoichkov. Another great game by the referees. This is really the group of death. If Spain and Nigeria play as good as I think they are, we ll be seing the Paraguyan turists and Bulgarian criminal looking intimidators go bye bye after the first round. If Stoichkov was not denied by the post it would have opened up the game and hopefully forced the Paraguyans play better (if they could), at least play with some urgency. A good game overall but easily the worst of this World Cup so far. But not bad at all for a first round game.

Denmark - Saudi Arabia: 1 - 0

I had picked the Saudis to pull off the upset. I was so wrong (again). They sure took a step back from their glorious performance in 1994. They made the Danes look like Gods. The Danes deserved to win clearly. You all saw the brilliance and leadership of their goalie Schmeichel (if it wasn't for this guy we would all be watching Greece play today! sniff, sniff<g>) and the Laudrup brothers. The Saudis were a shadow of their 1994 team. A good team but not enough for second round now. Denmark and France should advance very easily here...

z:I think the Argentinian referree called a good game, not great.
