Compaq confirms 17,000 job reductions NEW YORK, June 12 (UPI S) _ Just one day after completing its acquisition of Digital Equipment Corp., Compaq Computer Corp. has confirmed it will slash 17,000 jobs from its payrolls over the next 12- months. During a news conference on Wall Street, Compaq CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer said there will be 2,000 layoffs within Compaq, in addition to the 15,000 previously announced at Digital Equipment Corp.
