This has been a rumor in the Formula 1 crowd.

Even if a manufacture isn't a current player, everyone keeps track of what they're doing, because new ones are always coming (and old ones going). Usually manufacturers do "tours", spending five years (or so) in, then back out, then back in. For example, Honda is about to reenter after leaving in 1992. Renault just left. BMW is about to jump back in. Peugeot got in a couple years ago. Lambo played there back when Chrysler owned them. A wealthy new owner could easily put the Lamborghini name back on a Formula 1 valvecover. Top teams have 200 employees and spend $50 MILLION per year on engines.
