Pardon my pissy mood, but silly and thoughtless comments are getting tiresome. Did you actually read my entire post??? Of course, there are companies who would like lower royalty rates.. I can't imagine any company saying "Gee, we'd like to pay Qualcomm more so that we can make less money.." Duhhh.

Tero's point was that QC's royalty demand is an unfair impediment to W-CDMA and has impaired the commercial deployment of IS-95. My point was that almost sixty companies including Lucent, Nec, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, LG Electronics and on and on and on (basically everyone but Ericsson) found it economic to purchase an IS-95 license and agree to QC's royalty rates. Therefore, anybody with a shred of objectivity, and a modicum of cognitive ability, should be able to infer FROM THE DEMONSTRATED ACTIONS OF VIRTUALLY THE ENTIRE TELECOM INDUSTRY that QC's royalty rates ARE NOT prohibative. Geez.

As far as DSP & VLSI and competing chipset... Well, you figured out, you clever guy. That's where Qualcomm blew it! Irwin licensed VLSI and DSP to make CDMA ASICs so that they could ruin Qualcomm's business model, devastate profit margins and render the company a smoking ruin. I am sure glad you are capable of such profound insight and deep understanding that you unearthed Qualcomm's true objective: self-immolation.

By the way, how do you feel about professional wrestling? Yeah, me too... It's not fake like pro boxing....
