SAN FRANCISCO, June 12 (Reuters) -
Intel Corp , the world's largest chip maker, was
off 1-13/16 to 66-3/4, after trading as low as 65-15/16.
When it reported its first quarter earnings In April, Intel
said its capital spending budget would be $5.0 billion for the
year, down from its previous guidance of $5.3 billion.
Deahna said it is very likely that Intel could even further
lower its capital spending plans, as did National Semiconductor
Corp . In its conference call Thursday with analysts to
discuss its fourth quarter, National said it would cut its
capital spending plans almost in half.
"Prior to yesterday's call, they were planning $600 million
in fiscal 1999 (in capital spending)," Deahna said. "They
lowered it to $350 million."
