Terrence, when I wrote "society needs to be protected, not the guys in jail", I was attempting to correct an innocent misstatement which made it seem like I thought child molesters should be protected from society. I do think it is society which needs to be protected from them. On a broader level, I would agree that far too many people are in jail for victimless crimes, nonviolent crimes, and because poverty has become criminalized (although you might agree with the last part)! Yes, there are many political prisoners in American jails. Let's start with Native American activist, Leonard Peltier!!! igc.apc.org
