Much easier to sell something that "everyone knows is truth" which explains why brokers can get such high p/e's for amazon and KO (and tulips).

Btw, "tulip mania" is alive and kicking in this day and age! Except that it is now renamed as the "beanie baby phenomenon" :-)

I had gone to a photo studio recently, where I saw a pathetic little "beanie baby" doll (dog or bear or cat, I don't know which) that was selling for... $300!

That was staggering indeed. And what was even more astounding was that at that time, a customer -- an old lady, walked in and asked the store-owner for some other "beanie baby" that was not in stock at that time, and told him that she is prepared to pay any amount if he can get her that particular piece!
