CHIP EQUIPMENT MAKERS: Any analyst who has recommended a chip equipment maker over the past six months should be taken out and shot: no trial, no last request, just a blindfold and a bullet. Any analysts with his or her eyes should have seen the parallels between the semicondcutor equipment makers and the disk drive manufacturers: 1) revenues begin to tumble while stocks trading at record highs; 2) every quarter almost all the major names issuing earnings warnings; 3) each quarter analysts recommending the stock, saying that the worse is over; 4) six weeks later almost all the major names issuing an earnings warning.
