Don' know overall industry ASP for servers. Suspect the distribution is not a normal distribution. It may be bi-modal with UNIX servers by DEC (aka Compaq) and Sun having pretty high prices; Intel servers less expensive. Here is a data point on DEC:

Re: Any idea what the (overall industry) ASP for servers
is and/or Dell's ASP for servers?

I calculate the industry average ASP at $7800 for 1998.
This is from IDC's numbers of 2.2 million units and $17B
in revenue.

Dell is a little trickier. Again you need IDC data for the
missing variable

Unit's shipped = 46,915
Dell's revenue = 3.92B
Enterprise sales = 11%

(431M revenue / 46,915 units) = $9,193

Using this same approach, we can calculate
Dell's ASP for the other two lines of business.

Units Rev ASP

Desktops 1297350 2.59B $1,994
Portables 260799 901MM $3,457

Using this same approach again, we can now look at ASP trends
over the last 5 quarters.

Q197 Q297 Q397 Q497 Q198

Servers $7,383 $7,923 $8,858 $9,374 $9,193
Desktops $2,336 $2,299 $2,271 $2,013 $1,995
Portable $3,657 $3,809 $3,502 $3,487 $3,458

Enjoy!
