MSB,

Choose one to do what with? Short it? Or go long?

Assuming you want to go long, are you looking for the most bang for the buck, or the safest way to play the group.

In terms of risk/reward, I would have to choose NE.

In terms of least risk, I would choose RIG.

In terms of flat out most gain, I would choose MDCO, CDG or if you want to really go wild UTI.

Another way to play this sector is on the suppliers. I like boats and think TMAR is a steal at these levels, but I thought that at $20 also. Read some of the TMAR thread if you're interested. Good notes on conference calls posted there.

Each has its own dynamics although all are sensitive to some degree on the price of oil. Understand what you are buying and the implied assumptions you are making before investing in this area. None of these are going higher until oil prices at least stabilize and start moving higher and that is no longer on the near term horizon.

Drillers...... choices;

for upside appreciation potential at ''today's'' prices :

short term ....CDG

long term ...UTI, PTEN, BDI in that order

least downside risk...RIG, DO

...my 2 cents.

Just bought-in Thursday and Friday... CDG, MDCO, and TCMS.

And I'm gonna make a pile of money and all three :-)

MSB, I'd answer-take a service or equipment company first- steadier cash flow, but then again not the huge upside either if the indsutry takes off....

Almost all of the prime-time service/equipment companies are "on sale" right now....

Sincerely,

Doug F.
